I appreciate everyone who has asked about me, and my family, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. I apologize for taking so long to post an update, but it has been a busy time.
First, and most importantly, we are healthy and our house suffered minimal damage. However, our barn and property were badly flooded. A section of our barn collapsed, we lost our chicken coop and several pieces of art were washed out of my studio space in the barn. All told, we feel pretty lucky. So many people suffered major losses.
I am beyond grateful for the mutual support of the community we are a part of. Our neighbor Ron lent us a generator, and we provided hot meals for him and other neighbors on our gas stove. My friend Trevor delivered a load of firewood to replace the stack that washed away, and many others have helped connect us to resources. Thanks to a lot of volunteer labor from Andy, Kristen, Tom, Alena, Quail, Oliver, Jesse, and others, we have stabilized the barn and fixed the fencing around the the sheep pasture.
It will take a while, but we will rebuild. The mountains create a special community and I am grateful to be part of this place and the people who live here.
